Opium Abstract (ABA #2)
The first in a series of abstract botanicals. There's just something about a poppy...maybe it's the duality of the flower...a beautiful, classic shaped bloom, and the dangerous derivative that comes from it. The multi layered painting techniques used in this piece allow me to explore both. The canvas has been painted, poured, and then poured again...the final 3 layers a clear acrylic with diluted pigment creating a ghost like echo that appears to float over the canvas.
This piece was 1 of 3 recently displayed at the 33August juried art exhibit at the Old Orchard Gallery in Webster Groves, MO...the trio winning the Visitors Choice award.
