Bean on the Fence (APH #4)
The subject of this painting is my beautiful "bonus niece" Sydney (nicknamed "Bean"), developed from a photo her mother took...Bean standing in her backyard on a cool fall day, distracted by the overhead flight of a distant plane. What I found so haunting, and what made me eager to paint this image, was the story her mother inadvertently captured with the camera, that mirrors her existence. Sydney has Angelman's Syndrome...her sweet soul, in a body with a disconnect to her mind...standing alone at the perimeter of her own little world, no gate to let anyone in...and yet she finds a way to fill our hearts.
